Your monthly contribution
Why joining early matters
Monthly contribution for your chosen pension, by joining age.
APY: a government-guaranteed pension for the unorganised sector
Atal Pension Yojana gives you a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000–₹5,000 from age 60, for life — backed by the Government of India, regulated by PFRDA, with zero market risk. It's built for unorganised-sector workers: join between 18 and 40, contribute till 60.
- The earlier, the cheaper. ₹5,000 pension costs ₹210/month at 18 but ₹1,454/month at 40 — 7× more for the same pension. Every year of delay is brutally expensive; the chart above shows it.
- Income taxpayers can't join. Since 1 Oct 2022, anyone who is or has been an income-tax payer is ineligible. This is strictly for non-taxpayers.
- Spouse + nominee are covered. After your death, your spouse gets the same pension; after both, the full corpus (₹1.7L–₹8.5L depending on slab) goes to the nominee.
- Tax: contributions qualify for 80CCD(1) deduction (within the ₹1.5L 80C limit).
APY vs NPS
APY is a defined benefit (pension amount fixed, government bears the risk); NPS is defined contribution (corpus depends on markets). Taxpayers who can't join APY should look at our NPS calculator instead.
